Personal Consultations and Dental Exams

Personal Consultations & Dental Exams

Dental Solutions of Columbus isn’t a dental clinic where you’ll be kept waiting before your appointment only to be rushed in and out of treatment like you are on an assembly line. It’s also not the kind of dental office where doctors seem to come and go as if there was a revolving door. When you come to Dental Solutions, you’ll be seen by Dr. Dipesh Sitaram or Dr. Gabriel Hostalet, and they’ll call you by name. Since this is our private, neighborhood dental practice, we’re invested in you as a valued patient.

When you have a consultation or routine dental checkup, our doctors and team will personalize your appointment to your needs. If you want to learn more about your dental condition and the details of your treatment options, we’re happy to show you pictures and videos to help explain the clinical side of things in terms you can understand. If you feel anxious about treatment and are more concerned about comfort than anything, then helping you just relax will be top priority. Please let us know what you need so we can do our best to make it happen!

Jaw Motion Tracking (JMT)

We have high-tech jaw motion tracking software to determine a patient’s perfect bite — or, in other words, the best way for their jaw, muscles, and teeth to fit and function together. Using this data, we’ll be able to pinpoint any dysfunction that might be causing damage, pressure, or overexertion so that we can correct it accordingly. Fixing a misaligned bite can not only alleviate jaw and facial pain, but it can even help relieve headaches and neck aches too!

Dental X-rays - Indy Dental Solutions of Columbus

Digital X-Rays & 3D X-Rays

X-rays are a normal part of dental exams for all ages of patients. Many dental health problems can’t be seen during a visual examination by the naked eye. An x-ray is needed to reveal:

  • Decay hiding between teeth or underneath existing restorations (fillings or crowns)
  • Cavities deep inside teeth
  • Gum disease that isn’t apparent on the surface of gums
  • Infections in the jaw bones
  • Abscesses and cysts
  • Some developmental abnormalities
  • Some kinds of tumors

Digital x-rays are safe and fast. Within seconds, the digital quality images can be viewed and enlarged on a computer or TV screen. They’re a terrific diagnostic tool to help us determine your dental condition, and we’ll offer to show them to you as we walk you through what’s going on in your mouth. In instances when x-rays aid us in detecting oral cancer early, they can help save your life!

Galileos X-rays - Indy Dental Solutions of Columbus

GALILEOS 3D X-Rays

We’ve brought the GALILEOS 3D x-ray imaging system into our advanced dental office in Columbus, Indiana. Its digital x-ray scanner is mounted on a mechanical arm that rotates around as the scanner projects x-rays in a computer-controlled, cone-shaped beam. In seconds, all needed data is collected during one complete pass of the scanner. The detailed images can be viewed on a computer monitor in varying angles and views, including 2D, 3D, and panorama. It’s totally cool! These 3D x-rays allow us to see more of patients’ teeth, bones, tissues, nerves, and airways than ever before. Dr. Sitaram continues to invest in this technology and its benefits for patients by updating to the latest and greatest model. The newest unit is called GALILEOS Comfort(PLUS). Dr. Sitaram wants to keep his practice at the forefront of innovation so you have access to everything that your smile and oral health might need.

This 3D imaging technology is superb for dental diagnostics and treatment planning. We can plan out entire procedures digitally with such detail that when we perform the actual treatment, it is amazingly predictable and we can better achieve desired results. We strongly believe that complete information is a vital aspect of comprehensive dental care! We think the GALILEOS system is awesome, and we can’t wait to show you how it could improve your dental treatment experience.

Gentle, Thorough Dental Cleanings

Whether or not you ever need or want more extensive dental work done, please at the very least love your smile enough to see us every six months for a regular cleaning. All it takes is less than an hour a couple of times a year to help preserve your oral health and smile for decades to come. You owe it to your future self! Even less than stellar flossing habits can usually be compensated for if you visit us often enough. And we’ll never scold you if it has been too long since your last dental appointment! Our hygienists who perform cleanings at our Columbus dental office are friendly, accommodating to your needs, efficient, and thorough, all with gentleness and compassion. They’re conversational enough to help you feel at ease, but not too much. We’d feel kind of silly, too, if we were asked to answer too many questions while getting our teeth cleaned!

Part of looking after your health and providing a thorough dental cleaning is using clean, safe water at our office. At Dental Solutions of Columbus, we have installed DentaPure® to treat our dental unit waterlines. These cleaning cartridges prevent any harmful bacteria from contaminating our water. You can rest easy knowing that we only use purified water when treating our patients.

Gum Care & Treatment for Gum Disease

With all this talk of teeth, don’t forget your gums. According to the American Academy of Periodontology, gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss in adults over 35. Gum disease ranges from gingivitis to the various forms and stages of periodontitis, and the prevalence of gum disease increases with age. If your gums feel tender or sore, or if they look red and swollen, you might have gum disease. Other warning signs include gums that bleed more than you’d expect after flossing, receding gums, pain or sensitivity in your teeth, loose-feeling teeth, and persistent bad breath that can’t be explained by what you ate for lunch. We’ll check your gums when you visit us. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to tooth loss as well as other serious health problems.

Gum disease used to require surgery, but that’s not the case anymore! While surgery is still an option and sometimes needed, many cases of gum disease can now be treatment with deep dental cleanings, local antibiotics, and special mouth rinses.

We also have a soft tissue dental laser called PerioLase® that we use to repair damage from gum disease through advanced laser gum therapy.

Fluoride Treatments - Indy Dental Solutions of Columbus

Fluoride Treatments

As plaque develops, it wears away tooth enamel in a process called demineralization. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that works to promote the remineralization of enamel, meaning it makes the outside of teeth stronger and more resistant to decay. When tooth decay is in its early stages, fluoride can sometimes help reverse it. Children can benefit a great deal from fluoride exposure, especially soon after their permanent teeth come in, but adults should make sure their teeth come in contact with it too. The easiest way is to use toothpaste with fluoride. There are also a number of rinses, gels, and in-office fluoride treatments that can do the trick!

Dental Sealants - Indy Dental Solutions of Columbus

Protective Dental Sealants

Good dental hygiene habits are crucial for preventing cavities, but toothbrushes don’t always reach down into teeth’s deepest grooves. Dental sealants are applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth, filling in hard-to-clean crevices where pesky food particles can get caught and cause decay. Sealant application is painless and fast. This small dental investment can yield years of protection for your child’s (or your) teeth, making it well worth it.

Dental Tooth-Colored Fillings - Indy Dental Solutions of Columbus

Tooth-Colored Fillings

We want your great smile to be what people notice, not your dental fillings. Composite fillings use a mixture of quartz or glass filler in a resin medium to make a tooth-colored dental filling material. After we skillfully place the material, we cure it with a special light, then we shape and polish the surface. The end result is a practically undetectable restoration that feels and looks like a natural tooth. This is an art that we pride ourselves on at Dental Solutions in Columbus!

Porcelain Crowns & Fixed Bridges

Dental crowns are sometimes called caps. They’re put on top of teeth to restore them to their best size and shape after large fillings, breaks, or weakening forces such as clenching and grinding. In all these cases, crowns serve to strengthen teeth and also provide protection. Crowns are used to restore single teeth, to attach bridges, to cover dental implants, and even as a preventive measure when a tooth is in imminent danger of cracking.

A fixed dental bridge is pretty self-explanatory as it is fixed in place to bridge gaps left by one or more missing teeth. The teeth on either side of the bridge serve as anchor teeth. The crowns on the anchor teeth attach to the false tooth or teeth of the bridge. Bridges can be supported by natural teeth with crowns or by implant-supported crowns.

Crowns and false teeth can be made of various materials, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Porcelain most closely mimics natural tooth appearance in color and texture, so we prefer it. Using the CEREC® system, we make and place crowns in only one appointment! CEREC e.max® crowns have the strength, durability, and beauty that you deserve for your smile.

Root Canal Therapy

Inside each tooth, there is soft tissue with nerves and blood vessels running from the root to the crown. A deep cavity, crack, or other injury to a tooth can damage the nerve, allowing bacteria to enter and kill the living tissue. The resulting infection, if left untreated, can cause pain, swelling and abscesses, tooth loss, and eventually damage to the bone surrounding the lost tooth. Through endodontic treatment, commonly called root canal therapy, we carefully remove the damaged tissue and gently clean the root canal. We then seal it off to prevent other bacteria from entering. Last, a crown is placed atop the repaired tooth to restore and strengthen it. When necessary, we’ll recommend medication or an antibiotic to help control the spread of bacteria and stop infection.

Relief from toothache pain is a very welcome and immediate benefit of root canal therapy. We know that a toothache is enough to ruin anyone’s day! The long-term benefits of a root canal include saving your natural tooth and avoiding damage to the surrounding jaw bone. Your smile is a very important asset, so we take care of it the very best we can.
